This Moodle based portal has been customized by Educational Technology Unit (ETU) Team of CDAC Mumbai Team as per SBIL needs.

Seminar for Teachers on "Demystifying E-Learning", December 16-17, 2006

Education Technology Unit announces a two day seminar on "Demystifying E-Learning" to increase awareness about e-learning among teachers, and guiding them to get started. This seminar is intended to provide teachers with a balanced view of the potentials of e-learning, relevant case studies, guidelines and tools to get started. The target audience is teachers from schools, colleges, universities and professional education institutions.

Two day workshop on Open Source Library Integrated System -- Koha, November 29-30, 2006
A two day workshop on Koha ILS ( Integrated Library management System ) was organised at CDAC Juhu on 29th and 30th of November, 2006. This was an introductory event organised by the CDAC Mumbai Librarians for the Library Professional in Mumbai. This was the first ever event on Open Source Software -- Koha, organiszed in Mumbai by CDAC. Participants learned how to install Koha on Knoppix, how to use Koha and it's various functionalities. This was handled by technical Staff of CDAC Mumbai from OSSRC group and by the CDAC Mumbai Librarians. The event was well received and many participants requested OSSRC for more workshop on Open Source ILS.

Content Creation Competition for Teachers

OSSRC announces a Content Creation Competition for teachers to encourage teachers to take up electronic content development and recognize good content through international visibility and direct awards. The main aim of this competition is to motivate teachers to create quality online content and later make this content available to the community. Participant teachers would be required to create a course in any subject, using an open source tool Moodle. The competition is open for school and college teachers in any discipline, all over India.

National Workshop on Artificial Intelligence, July 3-4, 2006

CDAC Mumbai will be hosting the national workshop on artificial intelligence, being organised by the special interest group in artificial intelligence (SIGAI) of the CSI. The event will be held in the Juhu campus during July 3-4, and will feature presentation of research papers, invited talks and a focus session on AI applications in industry.

July 25, 2005: European Union funds Rs. 3.5 Crore project for global Open Source Research

Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Mumbai will be the Indian participant in the mammoth and first-of-its -kind 35 million rupees multi-country project called FLOSSWORLD supported by the European Union (EU) in the area of Open So urce Software. This 2-year project involves 17 partner institutions across 12 countries worldwide, jointly receiving RS 3.5 crore from the EU’s 6th Framework Research Programme. C-DAC’s participation in the FLOSSWORLD project supported by NASSCOM, reinforces its strong commitment to Open Source Software as a major thrust area of research.For more details Click here

June 27 - July 2, 2005: Summer School on Open Source Software for Education

The Open Source Software Resource Centre at CDAC Navi Mumbai announces a summer school for teachers in order to familiarise them with Open Source alternatives for expensive software often used in education. These include Matlab-like package used for engineering education, content management systems for creating and managing online content and e-learning environments. For more details Click here

July 3rd, 2005: Alumni Meet 2005 at C-DAC Navi Mumbai

C-DAC Mumbai hosted its second alumni meet in its Navi Mumbai campus on 3rd July. About 50 alumni participated in the event, in addition to staff and current batch students. The event was managed by the current FPGDST students, guided by the staff at Navi Mumbai centre. The event was co-sponsored by the Open Source Software Resource Centre.

The program consisted of brief talks by M Sasikumar, R Hari (Project Manager, OSSRC), George Arakal (Registrar) and Arthi S (student representative), various sports and games, a think tank session and cultural programs by current batch students. The well-attended think-tank examined directions for educational programs for CDAC Mumbai as well as possible directions for growth.

Feb 28, 2005: National Science Day at CDAC Navi Mumbai Campus

CDAC Navi Mumbai celebrated National Science Day in a unique way. Given the Centre's interest in e-learning and the recognition of the year as "World Year of Physics", it announced a content development competition focussing on Physics. The competition was open to all full time students.

Participants were given a list of topics from which they need to select one. In three hours of time they were to produce e-learning content to convey some significant aspect of the chosen topic. Despite the short notice, 6 teams participated in the contest and addressed topics such as simple pendulum, properties of light, etc. A panel of judges reviewed the work and selected the winners, who were given cash awards.

Feb 26, 2005: Seminar on demystifying e-learning

A seminar for teachers on "demystifying e-learning" was held in CDAC Navi Mumbai campus on 26th February 2005. There were around 50 participants, mostly teachers. The seminar was inaugurated by Shri S Ramakrishnan,Director General, CDAC. The keynote speaker, Dr Gary Woodill, CLO, Operitel Inc, Canada delivered his address from Canada through a virtual classroom environment supplemented by audio over telephone. During A seminar for teachers on "demystifying e-learning" was held in CDAC Navi Mumbai campus on 26th February 2005. There were around 50 participants, mostly teachers. The seminar was inaugurated by Shri S Ramakrishnan,Director General, CDAC. The keynote speaker, Dr Gary Woodill, CLOi, Operitel Inc, Canada delivered his address from Canada through a virtual classroom environment supplemented by audio over telephone. During the seminar, the participants were shown various types of content, assessment and collaboration models through a series of demonstrations. Speakers included Dr Vasant Barve from Ashoka Education Foundation, Rushikesh B from Learnet India, Santhosh S from TIS, Anuradha Bhagwat, RK Jain from BARC and staff members of the Educational Technology Division at CDAC Mumbai.

Feb 13, 2005: AICT-2005

M Sasikumar was an invited speaker in the national conference on Advances in Information Communication Technology (AICT-2005), Challisgaon, 11-12February. The topic of the presentation was "Information Technology and Digital Divide". The presentation attempted to classify the factors responsible for digital divide (language, cost, etc) and outlined technologies such as open source, human computer interfaces, localisation, multilingual computing, etc which need to be pursued at a much larger scale to address this problem on a national basis.Illustrating these areas asfertile avenues for exciting research and development, the participants were called upon to look at these as candidates for their research.The conference was organised by BP College, Challisgaon and was attended by over 100 delegates.
