CDAC Mumbai, Kharghar centre, has been conducting a series of lecture demos to introduce you to the wide range of high quality software available in open source. A list of upcoming seminars is given below. To attend a seminar, please register on or before the specified closing date. If you want any other specific software to be taken up at a future seminar, please let us know. If you are expert in any open source software and would like to demonstrate it, please contact us with relevant details. Bug tracking systems MantisBT,Redmine and Bugzilla: A bug tracking system is a very important tool in the software development process. Programmers and quality assurance people rely on it to keep track of reported bugs in their work. A database storing the bug data is a vital component of a bug tracking system. In a more general sense, a bug tracking system can be used as an issue tracking system to keep track of important issues in any project. MantisBT, Redmine and Bugzilla are free, open source, web based bug tracking systems.

MantisBT
is written in PHP, uses MySQL/ MSSQL/ PostgreSQL database, and works with Apache/ IIS webserver. It can be installed on Windows, Linux, Mac OS and OS/2.
Easy to set up and use, it is very popular.
• Redmine is a project management and bug-tracking tool. Written using Ruby on Rails framework, it is cross-platform and cross-database.
• Bugzilla is written in Perl, uses MySQL/ PostgreSQL/ Oracle database, and works with Apache web server. It is recommended to be installed on Linux or Solaris, but can be installed on Windows (with some efforts). With powerful features, it is used by many well known open source and proprietary softwares.

• NLTK - NLTK [Natural Language Processing Toolkit] is a complete Open Source suite of Python modules, linguistic data and documentation for research and development in Natural Language Processing. It provides utilities for many NLP tasks like chunking, stemming and parsing to name a few. It is a useful tool for students, professionals and researchers interested in Natural Language Processing and is widely used by NLP community all over the world.
• GNU Build System - The GNU build system provides an environment to a computer programmer that helps them make their software/packages portable across platforms (at least for Unix-like operating systems). It also makes the build process easier for the user, allowing him/her to use just a small set of commands to build the software/package from its source code and install it.

• Ant Scripting Tool - Ant is a Java-based build tool. In theory, it is kind of like Make, without Make's wrinkles and with the full portability of pure Java code.
• Descriptive Examination System - Descriptive Examination System, developed by CDAC, is an open-source, web-based testing system, for descriptive type examinations covering exam related tasks such as paper pattern creation and reuse, question paper creation, conduction of the exam online, evaluation of the questions online (manually). Many time and resource consuming tasks involved in managing descriptive type exams are made easy and online using the system.
• Open Conference System (OCS) – OCS, developed under the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), is a free Web publishing tool to create a complete Web site for a scholarly conference. It handles participant registration, and the complete workflow of submitted research papers, including call for papers, online paper submission and review, and posting the accepted papers in a searchable format.

• Apache OFBiz - Apache Open For Business (Apache OFBiz) is an Open Source Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. It provides a suite of enterprise applications that integrate and automate many of the business processes of an enterprise. Apache OFBiz is a framework that provides a common data model and a rich set of business processes.
• InkScape - InkScape is an Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.
• CMU Sphinx-4 - Sphinx-4 is a state-of-the-art speech recognition system written entirely in the Java programming language. Coverage will include examples of usage of these Speech APIs and their integration with other applications as another input mechanism.

• Weka - A machine learning toolkit with data pre-processing, data visualisation and built-in algorithms for classification, data mining and clustering.
