| OpenType |
The OpenType font format
is an extension of the TrueType font format. OpenType was
developed jointly by Microsoft and Adobe. The Substitution (GSUB)
and Positioning (GPOS) tables in an OpenType font provide the advanced
typographic control needed for the shaping of Complex Text. OpenType is
a registered trademark of Microsoft. |

Raghu series of fonts are
OpenType fonts for Indic scripts based on the Visual Syllable standard
of IndiX Compugraphy. Raghu and IndiX Compugraphy are rooted in the
Unicode Standard. Raghu does not require specific OpenType Features to
be set for shaping. Only the visual order of characters matters.
In each Raghu font, sufficient number of glyphs have been
designed and are supported with adequate number of rule
tables. The shipped Raghu fonts are the smaller 'binary' version of the font suited for using the font. The non-shipped are the larger 'source' version with open OpenType tables. These are for the font and OpenType table developers. |

This DEVPKG
contains the source of the IndiX
shaping engine that converts Indic text in Unicode to Glyphs from
OpenType fonts. It does conversions (UTF-8 to UCS-2), tagging of the
text with script and syllable, reordering of logical syllables to
visual syllables, and conversion of the visual syllable of characters
to a renderable syllable of glyphs. IndiX supports nine Indic scripts
and comes with the required Raghu series of OpenType fonts. Vedic
Sanskrit is added. The IndiX fonts are not in this DEVPKG. The IndiX library is used in enabling X11 for Indic text and in the IndiX applications, oprint, netprint. tar -xvjf IndiXDeveloper.tbz will create an IndiX development tree rooted at priv6/. See priv6/readme for further information. |

Tar ball of IndiX enhanced config, imake,
source, and include files of the XFree86-4.3.0 developer
distribution from Debian. The IndiX modifications are not included as
diff. To use this tarball, obtain the developer package from Debian,
apply the Debian modifications and then untar this .tbz into the xc/
directory. Install IndiX libraries and applications. After this compile
the X11. Tested on Knoppix 3.6. |
