Knowing Vidwan and its different levels of interaction...

Vidwan is a domain-independent, customizable, multiuser web based Expert System Shell which allows creation of rule-based expert systems, by encoding an expert's knowledge as a set of rules, and does knowledge inferencing using built in backward chaining inference engine. Vidwan also supports uncertainty handling and explanation facilities.

You can interact with Vidwan at two levels namely -

  • Rulebase User
  • Rulebase Owner

Rulebase User (RBUser) :
At this level, you seek advice from Vidwan. In order to seek the expert advice in a particular domain, the RBUser should be enabled on a rulebase of that particular domain.

  • You can then 'Execute a Rulebase' to start an interactive session with the expert system.
  • During or at the end of the interaction (after obtaining the result), you can store responses (prompted confidence-factor values for attributes) in the Shell, and could continue the interaction in the next session.
  • View a list of all the responses saved by you on various rulebases.
  • View a list of rulebases you are enabled on.

Rulebase Owner (RBOwner) :
At this level, your look out is to be able to impart adequate domain knowledge to Vidwan in a rule based form. You as an RBOwner, would be capable of the following activities:

  • Add a manually structured rulebase file located on your system.
  • Update an existing rulabse file pertaining to a domain
  • Create a rulebase file interactively within the shell itself
  • Verify the rulebase against aspects like cyclic rules, unnecessary antecedents in rules, redundant and subsumed rules etc.
  • Enable another shell user to work with your rulebase or Disable him/her
  • Often a domain expert wishes to put forth his comments in a typical format. You could generate templates for the same. Also you can have multiple templates for a single rulebase giving you freedom to customize.

Happy experimenting ...!!
